Although this course covers neutralization and repair methods approved by the GSA, it is not GSA certification. Those desiring GSA certification should take our GSA Certified Safe and Vault Technician course. For those already GSA certified, this class is a great way to brush up on the latest drilling methods.  GSA certification is not a prerequisite.

Course Description:

The proper neutralization (drilling for a lockout) and the repair of GSA containers is essential for retaining their GSA approval.  It also saves the cost of procuring replacement containers when improper or unapproved methods are used.  This class teaches methods for opening and repairing GSA security containers authorized by the most current revision of Federal Standard 809 (FED-STD-809E).

Drill rigs and their setup, types of drill bits, drilling techniques, and safety are covered. Hands-on drilling of FF-L-2740B approved locks and cutting bolts on GSA approved security files are included.

The following is covered in detail:

  • Federal Standard 809 (current revision)
  • Drilling techniques for currently approved combination locks (Kaba-Mas X-10, Sargent & Greenleaf models 2937 and 2740B)
  • Cutting drawer bolts for red label security files
  • Welding as part of GSA container repair

Do you need this class? Test yourself with these questions:

  1. Can a Map and Plan container be drilled outside of its dial ring area and retain its GSA approval?
  2. What is the proper repair for a red label container that was opened by cutting the drawer bolts?
  3. Does a repair require painting on the inside of the container?
  4. Must a container be re-certified if it is drilled and repaired to the Federal Standard?

Each student will receive:

  • Work Mat
  • Copy of Federal Standard 809
  • MBA USA Course Certificate
  • Coffee Mug
  • MBA USA Ruler
  • MBA USA pen
  • Notepad

Topics in this course are also included in our GSA Certified Safe and Vault Technician course.
