Description
When and how to use the X-08 / X-09 LOBC FIXTURE:
Note: Before performing any type of service on any X-08 or X-09 lock, be certain you are thoroughly familiar with the lock's operating procedures. Installation and operating information is available on the MBA USA Downloads page.
The Mas-Hamilton X-08 and Kaba-Mas X-09 safe locks are equipped with an LOBC (Locked on Back Cover) that cannot be removed unless the lock's combination is known. If the combination is lost, but the lock serial number has been recorded, the combination may be changed using the serial number, provided you get to the back of the lock to insert the change key.
The LOBC fixture is designed to enable back cover removal with minimal damage to a lock when the combination and serial number are both unknown. You still must have access to the back of the lock in order to use the fixture. Once the lock cover has been removed, the serial number can be recovered and used to set a new combination. To use the fixture, simply remove the lock's two cover screws and attach the fixture behind the lock. Then using the included 5/32" cobalt drill bit, drill a hole through the head of the cover pin. This will separate the head from the rest of the pin allowing the cover to be removed.
Note that when an LOBC pin is drilled out, it must be replaced if the lock is to be put back into service. See LOBC Pin MAS501024. Replacement 5/32" cobalt bits are available. See Cobalt Drill Bit 5/32" Jobber Length, SKU COB156.
