    Great Lock!!

Posted by Mike on 14th Mar 2018

Great Lock. Easy to use and easy to install. Removed the mechanical lock and installed this one in less than an hour. Anyone with mechanical ability can do it. I would definitely buy another one if I had a second safe - which I don't.

    Easy Installation, Positive, Secure Lock

Posted by JohnR on 2nd Jan 2018

I used this on a surplus 2-drawer GSA security container to replace a KABA 1F X-09 lock (a very high-end, expensive lock) The X-09 was a pain to use and there is a reason DoD has stopped using them in a lot of cases - when they crap out, it's drill time. Anyway this S&G 'directi-drive' lock is secure, easy to install, and because you retract the bolt manually by twisting the outer ring, you are not dependent on a small motor to pull the bolt in. The electronic part just unlocks the bolt so you can move it manually. The installation required that the spindle be cut to length, the wire fed through it, and the lock and dial parts attached to the safe door. There is an 8 inch piece of spindle so even if you screw up there is probably enough to make another. The 9 volt battery is replaceable from outside the lock but because it is not doing a lot of work, it should last a long time. My only gripe is that the outer ring you twist is plastic. i would like it better if it was metal, but it does seem to be plenty strong enough so there is no worry of it breaking. This is the second one I have. The first replaced a mechanical lock on another 2-drawer security cabinet. It was also very simple to install and has been working perfectly (on its first battery) for more than two years.

Replaced Unreliable S&G 6120 lock - Easy Install

Posted by Freddie on 2nd Oct 2017

Old S&G 6120 would only open about every 5 or 6 tries, so I would get locked out often and have to wait for time out period to end and try again. Love the reliability of the D-drive lock. You turn the bolt mechanism with the outer ring so it opens reliably when you put in the code. Install was very easy and all necessary instructions and hardware was included for the lock. Programming was easy also, not sure why someone would have a problem with it if they read the instructions first. Since I replaced an old S&G lock, all of the mounting holes were already drilled and tapped, so install was simple. I reused the relocker plate, but I wish they would include a short relocker screw with the lock. On one side, the relocker screw is slot is very short, so you need a very short screw. supplied bolts were just a fraction of a mm too long, so had to fix that to get rid of loose fit.

    Unreliable lock

Posted by Unknown on 26th Jan 2017

Installation instructions are very vague. Lock does not except master code change, so all locks have the same combination. Might as well not have a lock at all. MBA USA Reply: We are very sorry that you are having so many problems programming this lock, despite our attempts to walk you through it. Sargent & Greenleaf has been in business since 1865 and is regarded by many as the gold standard. I assure you this lock would not bear the UL standard it does if they all opened on the same combination. UPDATE from MBA: Customer got lock programmed correctly and is now very satisfied with outcome.

Easy to install with the incuded instructions.

Posted by Bob on 28th Nov 2016

I am not a locksmith, but the lock package installation was fairly easy to do, using the included instructions. I do gunsmithing work and those skills came into play with a couple of issues with the safe, not the lock assembly. I purchased this lock package to replace an old LaGard LGBASIC keypad and swingbolt lock that came with a Cannon vault I purchased new in 2004. I was moving and since the Cannon vault was cleaned out, I decided it was time to upgrade the keypad and lock assembly with an updated model. Everything on the S&G Titan D-Drive lock package lined up exactly where it was supposed to on the vault. I did run into an issue with the Cannon vault and the new lock, which required a few specialty tools from my gunmithing tool chest. I needed a bottom tap, to tap 1 screw hole that Cannon did not tap, since the old lock had the electrical cord on the opposite side and the workers at Cannon did not tap that hole. And since I had the bottom tap set out, I chased the threads in all the other mounting holes to clean them up, to make sure I had no other issues. The second necessary tool I grabbed was a set of dial calipers. The mounting surface on the back of the new lock, where the relocker plate mounts to has one screw hole with a maximum depth of .140". My old relocker plate screws were longer than this, so I had to measure the relocker plate thickness and do some basic math, then cut a screw to the proper length to make sure my overall screw length did not exceed the tolerance listed on the lock. I simply cut the screw of to the desired length, slightly beveled the end of the screw and redressed the threads. This also was easy enough to do, with no problems and then my old relocker plate mounted to the lock with no issue. All of the S&G parts mounted flawlessly due to the S&G Magic ModuleĀ® footprint. This was very true in my case. I hope this lock and keypad are as durable or more so, than the unit I replaced, which lasted for over 12 years with no issues at all. The sales staff at MBA USA answered all of my questions prior to me placing my order and they were very courteous and helpful. When I replace my other safe locks, I will be ordering from MBA USA!

Does not come with a relocker plate. Was able to modify the old one to work.

    so easy and practical !!!!!

Posted by hector on 15th Jan 2016

Wow is all i can say. I love this electronic lock. Its so much easier and faster to access my safe than the mechanical lock . Easy to install and use. Only negative thing i can say is the instructions to program your own code are so confusing. I somehow activated dual user mode which is not reversable ( need 2 combos to open) i suggest when installed call manufacturer to get help with instructions.
